The Sacrament of Confirmation for young adults of catechetical age is conferred upon those who have been baptized, received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, have been instructed in their faith and have demonstrated a capacity and willingness to participate in the life of the Church.

CATECHESIS
1.  Will include liturgical life and Christian Witness.

IMMEDIATE PREPARATION
1.  Minimum of two-year program of spiritual formation designed to develop understanding of the
     Sacraments of Initiation as they apply in the lives of the candidates and life of the Church.
2.  Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred in Level 8 (8th grade).
3.  Readiness for the Sacrament proceeds in two stages:
                 a.  readiness of candidacy.
                 b.  readiness for Sacrament itself.
4.  A retreat experience
5.  Service Activities-seen as apprenticeship in the ministry of the adult community.

READINESS
1.  The Pastor or delegate, through an interview, will determine readiness for the reception of the
      Sacrament.
2.  Readiness includes:
                 a.  Initial catechetical preparation.
                 b.  Faithfulness in goint to Mass and receiving the Sacraments.
3.  If it is determined the students cannot profess knowledge of their faith and are not regularly
     participating in the Mass and sacramental life, a more intensive program of additional or extended
     preparation will be offered.

ROLE & ELIGIBILITY OF SPONSORS
1.  Sponsors should be someone who knows the candidate and can help in her/his spiritual journey.
2.  Sponsors should be acquainted with their responsibilities.
3.  A person is eligible to be a sponsor if:
                  a.  They are  a baptized Catholic.
                  b.  They are not the candidate's parent.
                  c.  They are at least 16 years old and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
                  d.  If married, are in a marriage recognized in the Roman Catholic Church.
                  e.  They are a registered in a parish and is an active particpant  (attends Mass regularly,
                       contributes to the support of their parish as best they can and receives the
                       sacraments according to the laws of the Church-Canon Law 874)

NAME SELECTION
1.  Baptismal name is preferred at the time of Confirmation.  This expresses the relationship
     between Baptism and Confirmation.
2.  If a new name is taken, it should be the name of a recognized saint in the Church.
3.  A name may not be taken which is foreign to Christian sentiment.
4.  A newly chosen name does not have to be gender consistent.
